This is How the Birdie Sleeps....

Lucy sleeps perched on her mineral block all squooshed into the corner of her cage. One foot on the block and one foot holding the bars. She sleeps so squashed against the side that her feathers poke out. I'm convinced she sleeps like this because it is the absolute closest she can get to the rest of us. It is the best place to see us as we come downstairs in the morning. She has plenty of nice places to perch and even a snuggly toy she could cuddle if she wanted to but instead she chooses to squish herself into the corner. Silly sweet birdie!

Really sweet indeed! That sounds more like a dog than a bird to me ... LOL! Do birds sleep with eyes open?

She is so adorable! I'm impressed you were able to get that picture!

Agnes -- they sleep with their eyes closed, but since they're prey animals, it's hard to get a picture like that -- their eyes instinctively pop open if they sense/hear movement.

Stephanie -- does she fight sleep if you keep her up too late? My grey will sit there, yawning and visibly fighting sleep, just like a little kid, if we keep her up too late :) My macaw, on the other hand, just puts himself to bed. They are so funny!

Mary -

So far Lucy seems ready to hang out with us any time. But she is a bit more crabby when it is late so I try not to have our main interacting time be late at night. I'm trying to make sure I structure things so that she always has positive interactions with everyone.
